Fly Tying - Natural Whitetail Deer
These tanned deer hide pieces come from the trimmed cutoffs of shoulder mounts prepared in our taxidermy shop. Instead of discarding the scraps, we put them to good use by offering them to fly tiers.
This not only reduces waste, but also gives each animal a second purpose in the hands of fishermen. Durable, natural, and full of character—each piece carries the spirit of the hunt into the art of the cast.
Our hide pieces are sold in slightly larger quantities than those offered by other distributors, all at an affordable price.
Available Options:
Body Hair
Sourced from behind the shoulders and along the back of the deer. Each pack includes 5 assorted pieces approximately 2” by 2” or smaller. Hair varies in thickness and color, suitable for a wide range of fly patterns.
Bleached Body Hair
The same hair as above, treated with peroxide for a lighter appearance. Most ideal for flies requiring a brighter presentation, or to dye to colorations of your own.
Brisket / Belly Hair
Coarse, long hair from the deer’s brisket area. Each pack contains one or 2 large piece (fits in a 5” x 7” bag) and features natural blends of tan, white, and black. Great for tying larger or more textured patterns. Packs typically contain one half of the brisket area, or a large patch of white belly hair.
